Get Guardian Shield

Below are several real situations where attorney support through Guardian Shield helped clarify the status of a case, improve communication with the police, and make the next steps clearer.

Case 1: A long wait for a residence permit decision

Situation

Two clients faced a similar problem: their residence permit applications had been under review for a long time, but the police were not giving them any clear information about the status of their cases.

One client applied in Bratislava, and another client applied in Dunajská Streda. Both tried to get clarification on their own and sent their own requests, but it did not help.

In one case, the police asked for an additional document, but after it was sent, nearly two more months passed without any answer.

What we did

The clients activated Guardian Shield and transferred communication with the police to an attorney.

After the power of attorney was arranged, the attorney sent official requests in his own name to the relevant police departments.

Result

In one case, the client received the decision and residence permit card just 3 days after the attorney’s request. The total review period in her case was around 7 months.

In the second case, the client received the residence card about 2 weeks after the attorney became involved.

Why this matters

This case shows that official representation through an attorney can significantly change the quality of communication with the police.

When personal requests bring no result, an attorney’s official request can help clarify the case status and move the process forward.

Case 2: Risk of residence permit cancellation because of a small debt

Situation

A family with children came to us in a critical situation: they faced the risk of losing their residence permit because of a small debt to an insurance company.

The debt appeared for a technical reason: at the beginning of the year, the payment amount changed, but the client continued paying the old amount. At the same time, the certificate confirming no debt had been issued earlier, while the filing with the police took place only after the debt had already arisen.

The police discovered the debt. The client paid it quickly and sent proof of payment, but later received a decision: the residence permit renewal was refused and the current residence permit was cancelled.

What we did

First, we held a consultation and reviewed the situation in detail. Then we built a legal strategy: we prepared an appeal and at the same time used Guardian Shield to support the case.

The attorney prepared the legal arguments, pointed out the disproportionality of the decision and its consequences for the family, entered the case through a power of attorney, and helped organise a new submission of documents.

Result

Although the police initially refused to accept a new application, the attorney’s involvement and a consistent legal position helped bring the situation under control.

As a result, it was agreed that the appeal would be withdrawn, the previous case would be closed, and the residence permit renewal process would start again.

Why this matters

Even a small technical debt can lead to serious consequences: refusal, cancellation of the residence permit, and risk for the whole family.

In this kind of situation, it is important to act quickly, not rely on only one appeal, and look for a real way to protect the status.

Case 3: A case without clear status for more than a year

Situation

The client contacted us after his documents had been with the police for more than a year without any clear status.

He sent written requests on his own and personally visited the police department, but still did not receive clear information about what stage the case was in, who was handling it, or what needed to be done next.

What we did

The client activated Guardian Shield and transferred communication to the law office.

After the power of attorney was arranged, we submitted official requests for access to the case. No reply followed, so a representative of the law office personally visited the police department.

Interim result

At the department, it became clear that the documents and the power of attorney were already with the police officer reviewing the case.

A few days later, the officer contacted the attorney and explained which additional documents had to be provided. The client quickly prepared and submitted everything required.

Current status

At the time this case was described, the case was still under review, but the situation was no longer completely unclear.

We established contact with the responsible officer, clarified which documents were actually required, and continue supporting the client as the case moves forward.

Why this matters

Even though the final decision has not yet been issued, the service has already helped move the case forward: understand its status, establish communication with the police, and define the next steps.

In long waiting situations, this is often the first necessary step toward a real result.

If your situation is similar

If your residence permit case has been under review for a long time, the police do not respond, or the situation has become critical, Guardian Shield helps transfer communication to an attorney, gain more clarity, and understand how to move forward.

This is especially important when personal requests no longer work, delays keep growing, and the cost of a mistake becomes too high.

When should Guardian Shield be activated?

The best time to activate Guardian Shield is before submitting your residence permit application in Slovakia, so you can set up the power of attorney in advance and have an official communication channel through an attorney from day one after submission. If your documents have already been submitted, the service can still be useful: it helps you avoid missing official correspondence, get more clarity about the status of your case, and understand the next steps.

Is the service suitable if my residence permit documents are already submitted?

Yes, the service is also suitable for people who have already submitted their documents and are waiting for a decision on temporary or permanent residence in Slovakia. The case studies on this page describe exactly that kind of situation: long waits for a decision, unclear responses from the police, and the need to clarify the status of a case.

In which situations is Guardian Shield especially useful?

This service is especially useful if you want to set up an official communication channel through an attorney in advance, avoid missing letters related to your case, and reduce the risk that important correspondence goes unanswered. It is particularly helpful for people who travel often, have been waiting longer than usual, or want all official notices related to their residence in Slovakia to stay under control.

What is included in Guardian Shield?

If your case needs more help, additional legal support is also available.

How does the power of attorney for a residence case work?

After activation, we prepare a power of attorney with your details and explain the next steps. You only need to certify your signature with a notary and submit the document to the relevant authority following the instructions. Once the power of attorney is submitted, official correspondence related to your case is sent to the attorney.

What happens when a letter arrives from the Foreign Police?

When a letter arrives, you receive a scan and a plain-language explanation of what it is, whether any action is needed, and what may come next. This helps you avoid missing important information and keeps you from dealing with unclear official correspondence on your own.

Can an attorney help if the Foreign Police are not responding for a long time?

Yes, if there is no clarity in your case for a longer period, the attorney can submit an official request and help clarify the current status. The case studies on this page show situations where involving an attorney helped create more clarity, establish contact, or determine which documents were needed next.
